Understanding the Master Matrix

Overview

The JGID Master Matrix is the knowledge engine that sits at the heart of JGID.

Every Quote, Job, Purchase Order, Worksheet, Daily Labour Summary, SWMS, JHA and RAMS begins with decisions made inside the Master Matrix.

Rather than asking you to repeatedly enter the same information for every Job, JGID allows you to capture your company's knowledge once, then automatically reuse it whenever it's needed.

For new JGID accounts, this knowledge is already pre-loaded with hundreds of hours of industry experience, giving your business a significant head start.

More Than Templates

Many software systems simply store information.

JGID stores relationships.

For example, most systems can store:

  • Paint
  • Roller
  • Safety Glasses

JGID goes much further.

It understands that:

  • A painting Service requires Paint.
  • Paint may require a Roller or Spray Gun.
  • Spray Painting introduces additional hazards.
  • Those hazards require specific PPE.
  • The work may require particular qualifications, permits and legislation.
  • The Job may also require additional Quote wording, forms and emergency procedures.

Instead of treating these as unrelated pieces of information, the Master Matrix connects them together.

The Philosophy

Every experienced estimator thinks ahead.

Before pricing a Job, they naturally ask questions such as:

  • What work are we doing?
  • What materials will we need?
  • What equipment will we use?
  • What consumables will be required?
  • What PPE will protect our workers?
  • Where will the work take place?
  • How will we access it?
  • What hazards exist?
  • Which standards apply?
  • What qualifications are required?
  • What documentation will the client expect?

The JGID Master Matrix captures this thinking.

Once configured, JGID can automatically reuse these decisions throughout the life of the Job.

The Six Input Sections

The Master Matrix receives information from six independent input sections.

1. Services

The work being performed.

Examples include:

  • Painting
  • Window Cleaning
  • Rope Access
  • Height Safety Installation
  • Inspection

2. Materials

The products that become part of the completed Job.

Examples include:

  • Paint
  • Silicone
  • Polyurethane
  • Anchor Points
  • Guardrails

3. Instruments

The reusable equipment required to perform the work.

Examples include:

  • Harnesses
  • Rope Access Kits
  • Drills
  • Tube Guns
  • Anchor Testers
  • Vehicles

4. Consumables

Items used up during the work.

Examples include:

  • Roller Sleeves
  • Nozzles
  • Drill Bits
  • Cleaning Detergents
  • Solvents

5. PPE

Personal Protective Equipment used to reduce risk.

Examples include:

  • Safety Glasses
  • Respirators
  • Gloves
  • Helmets
  • Hearing Protection

6. Checklist & JHA Input Fields

Not every decision comes from inventory.

The sixth input section captures other important information about the Job.

Examples include:

  • Access Categories
  • Location Categories
  • Working Environment Categories
  • Positions (HR)

These inputs can trigger exactly the same outputs as the five Item Types.

How the Master Matrix Works

Every inventory item belongs to a Category and Subcategory.

Those Categories become Inputs into the Master Matrix.

The Master Matrix then determines what information should be produced automatically.

No duplicate thinking.

No repetitive data entry.

One Decision Creates Many Outcomes

Imagine you're quoting a painting Job.

The Service is:

Painting

From that single decision, JGID can already begin building the Job.

You then select:

  • Paint
  • Roller
  • Roller Sleeve
  • Respirator

Those selections can automatically contribute to:

  • Quote wording
  • Safety hazards
  • PPE requirements
  • Relevant legislation
  • Applicable Standards
  • Required qualifications
  • Skills and training
  • Rescue planning
  • Forms and permits

Instead of entering the same information multiple times, JGID continues reusing the decisions you've already made.

Every Business Is Different

The Master Matrix is completely configurable.

You decide:

  • Your Categories
  • Your Subcategories
  • Which Inputs trigger which Outputs
  • What text should appear
  • Which hazards apply
  • Which qualifications are required
  • Which clauses belong on your Quotes
  • Which rescue plans should be included

JGID provides a comprehensive starter template containing hundreds of hours of industry knowledge, but every organisation is free to customise it to suit their own procedures and standards.

Why It Matters

The Master Matrix is one of the reasons JGID works differently to traditional job management software.

Instead of simply recording information, it captures your organisation's experience and turns it into a reusable knowledge system.

As your business grows, your people become more consistent because they are drawing from the same structured knowledge every time they prepare a Quote or complete a Job.

Your best practices become part of your business—not just something stored in the memory of your most experienced staff.

Best Practice

Treat the Master Matrix as your company's knowledge library.

Whenever you create a new Service, Material, Instrument, Consumable, PPE item or Checklist Category, consider what it should automatically trigger elsewhere in the system.

The more knowledge you build into your Master Matrix, the more JGID can automate for you.

Just Get It Done!

The JGID philosophy has always been simple:

Think once. Reuse everywhere.

Rather than solving the same problem every time you prepare a Quote or start a Job, capture your knowledge once inside the Master Matrix and let JGID do the repetitive work for you.

That's what Just Get It Done! is all about.
