How job colours affect technician colours in the calendar
How job colours affect technician colours in the calendar
Every job has a default colour. The colour assigned to the original job can affect how that job and its allocated technicians appear in the calendar.
How job colours work
When a job is using its default colour, each technician continues to appear in their own default calendar colour.
For example:
- The job’s default colour is green.
- Technician 1’s default colour is blue.
- Technician 2’s default colour is orange.
While the job remains set to its default colour, Technician 1 will appear in blue and Technician 2 will appear in orange.
If you change the job from its default colour to another colour, the selected job colour overrides the technicians’ individual colours.
For example, if you change the job colour to red:
- Future scheduled splits of the job will appear in red.
- Technicians allocated to those splits will also appear in red.
- This will continue until you change the colour of the original job again.
Watch the video
The following video provides a visual demonstration of how job colours affect technician colours in the calendar:
Changing the colour for future job splits
The colour is controlled from the original or root job.
To use the same colour for the job and its technicians:
- Open the original root job.
- Change the job from its default colour to your preferred colour.
- Schedule the next split of the job.
- Allocate the required technicians.
The new split and its allocated technicians will appear in the selected job colour.
Returning technicians to their own colours
If you want technicians to appear in their individual default colours again:
- Open the original root job.
- Change the job colour back to default.
- Schedule the future job splits and allocate the technicians as usual.
Each technician will then appear in their own default calendar colour.
Important notes
- A technician’s individual colour is shown when the job uses its default colour.
- Selecting another job colour overrides the calendar colours of technicians allocated to that job.
- The selected colour will continue to apply to future scheduled splits until the root job’s colour is changed again.
- Changing a job’s colour does not permanently change a technician’s personal default colour.
- Colour changes should be made from the original root job so that they apply going forward.
Frequently asked questions
Why are all technicians allocated to a job showing in the same colour?
The original job has most likely been changed from its default colour. When another colour is selected, that job colour overrides the technicians’ individual calendar colours.
How do I return technicians to their normal colours?
Change the colour of the original root job back to its default colour. Technicians allocated to future splits will then use their individual default colours.
Existing Calendar events will have to have the colour changed manually, or delete the split and make new ones after the root job has been changed back to default colour.
Does changing a job colour permanently change a technician’s colour?
No. The selected job colour only overrides how the technician appears when allocated to that job. It does not change the technician’s personal default colour.
Why is a future job split using the same changed colour?
Future scheduled splits follow the colour assigned to the original root job. The changed colour will continue to apply until the root job is changed again or returned to its default colour.
