If I update the pricing in the Material inventory, will that then automatically update the material wherever it is also part of a composed item?
How material price changes affect composed items
Materials can be used as standalone inventory items or as components within composed items.
The same material can be included in multiple composed items. This means you only need to maintain that material’s pricing in one place.
What happens when you update a material’s price?
When you update the cost or sell price of a material in your inventory, the updated material pricing flows through to every composed item containing that material.
JGID will automatically recalculate the composed item’s:
- Total cost
- Recommended sell price
Important: The actual sell price does not update automatically
The actual sell price of the composed item will remain unchanged.
This protects any deliberately set pricing, but it also means that the composed item’s current sell price may no longer provide the intended margin after a material price increase.
After changing a material’s price, review each affected composed item and manually adjust its actual sell price where required.
Example
A material is used in five different composed items. When you update the material’s cost or sell price in the inventory:
- The material’s pricing is updated in all five composed items.
- The total cost of each composed item is recalculated.
- The recommended sell price of each composed item is recalculated.
- The actual sell price of each composed item remains unchanged until you update it manually.
Recommended process
After updating the price of a material:
- Review the composed items that contain the material.
- Check their updated total costs and recommended sell prices.
- Compare the recommended sell price with each composed item’s actual sell price.
- Manually update the actual sell price where necessary.
This helps ensure your composed items remain profitable and accurately priced.
