Reviewing Job Hazard Analyses (JHA)

Overview

Once a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) has been completed, it can be reviewed by office staff to confirm that all required safety documentation has been completed before or during the Job.

Reviewing JHAs helps ensure your organisation's safety procedures have been followed, the correct hazards and controls have been identified, and any required signatures have been obtained.

Opening a Job Hazard Analysis

To review a Job Hazard Analysis:

  1. Open the relevant Job.
  2. Select Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  3. Open the required JHA.

The JHA displays the information completed by the supervisor or technician prior to commencing work.

What to Check

Before closing the Job or preparing an invoice, review the JHA to ensure:

  • The correct Job has been selected.
  • The scope of work matches the work completed.
  • Hazards have been identified appropriately.
  • Control measures are suitable.
  • The JHA has been completed by the appropriate person.
  • Additional workers have been included where required.

If your organisation requires a JHA before work begins, ensure it was completed before the Job commenced.

Reviewing Hazards and Controls

Review the listed hazards and confirm they are appropriate for the work undertaken.

Where necessary, verify that:

  • Additional hazards have been identified.
  • Suitable control measures have been applied.
  • Site-specific risks have been considered.
  • Any changes to the work scope have been addressed.

A well-completed JHA should accurately reflect the conditions encountered on site.

Reviewing Signatures

If your organisation requires signed JHAs, confirm that all required signatures have been obtained.

Remember that signature images are not stored within JGID.

To view the signed JHA, open the signed PDF saved in the Job's connected cloud storage folder.

For more information, see Understanding Signed Documents.

Updating a JHA

If information requires correction, discuss the changes with the supervisor or technician who completed the document.

Where possible, corrections should be made before the Job is completed to ensure the safety records accurately reflect the work undertaken.

Different Safety Workflows

Every organisation manages safety documentation differently.

Some businesses require a JHA:

  • Before every Job.
  • At the beginning of each day.
  • Whenever the scope of work changes.

Other organisations may use the JGID Forms App to complete custom JHAs, SWMS, SSSPs, RAMS, Toolbox Talks or other safety documentation.

Follow your organisation's documented safety procedures at all times.

Best Practice

  • Review JHAs before closing the Job.
  • Confirm hazards and control measures are appropriate for the work completed.
  • Ensure all required signatures have been obtained.
  • Treat the signed PDF stored in your connected cloud storage as the official signed record.
  • Follow your organisation's established safety procedures.
