Splitting a Job in the Calendar

Splitting a Job

Overview

Not every Job is completed in one continuous block of time.

Bad weather, public holidays, customer requests or changing priorities may require work to continue on another day.

Rather than creating multiple Jobs, JGID allows you to create additional scheduled blocks that all remain linked to the same Job.

Why Split a Job?

Splitting a Job allows you to schedule work across multiple dates while maintaining a single Job record.

Common reasons include:

  • Rain or bad weather.
  • Public holidays.
  • Weekend breaks.
  • Multi-day projects.
  • Returning later to complete the remaining work.
  • Customer requests to change the schedule.

Each scheduled block remains connected to the same Job, keeping all information together.

Creating a Split

To create another scheduled block for an existing Job:

  1. Click and drag across the calendar to highlight the day or time period where you want the additional work to take place.
  2. Release the mouse button. A pop-up window will appear.
  3. Click Assign Job at the top of the pop-up.

Search for the existing Job using any of the following:

    • Client Name
    • Location
    • Address
    • Job Number
    • Title
  4. Select the Job from the search results.
  5. If required, choose the technicians you want to assign to this scheduled block from the dropdown menu below the search box.
  6. Save your changes.

The new scheduled block is immediately added to the calendar and remains linked to the original Job.

Assign Job vs Calendar Event

When you highlight a period on the calendar, the pop-up provides two options:

  • Calendar Event – Create a general calendar entry, such as a meeting, leave request or reminder. It has no job related information or functionality.
  • Assign Job – Create another scheduled block for an existing Job.

If you're scheduling additional work for a Job, always choose Assign Job.

Managing Split Jobs

Once a Job has been split, each scheduled block can be managed independently.

You can:

  • Move each block to a different date or time.
  • Assign different technicians to each block.
  • Resize each block to suit the required duration.
  • Schedule work over multiple days or weeks.

All scheduled blocks continue to reference the same Job record.

Understanding the Root Job

The first scheduled block is known as the root Job.

This is the original scheduled instance of the Job.

The root Job can:

  • Be moved.
  • Be resized.
  • Be assigned to different technicians.
  • Be returned to the Job Queue.

Additional split blocks cannot be returned to the Job Queue. If they are no longer required, simply delete the split block from the Schedule.

Best Practice

  • Use split Jobs whenever work needs to continue on another day instead of creating duplicate Jobs.
  • Assign different technicians to each split if different crews will complete different stages of the work.
  • Delete unused split blocks rather than leaving unnecessary schedule entries.
  • Keep the original (root) Job as the primary scheduled block whenever possible.
